Google Pics: AI-Powered Design & Image Generation Now Available for Workspace

Google announced Pics, a new AI-powered image creation and editing tool for Google Workspace, at its I/O 2026 developer conference in May 2026, built on the Nano Banana model.
The tool is currently available to trusted testers for validation before a wider release and will roll out to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in Workspace later in summer 2026.
Pics allows users to generate and edit visuals such as posters, presentations, and marketing assets using natural language prompts, including modifying or repositioning specific objects via AI-powered segmentatio.
Google also incorporated its SynthID watermarking system to support AI content provenance across media generated by Pics.

GOOGLE PICS FOR WORKSPACE

Google is adding AI image generation and editing directly into Workspace, and that changes where design work starts.

🔴 Pics is being positioned inside the tools people already use, including Slides and Drive. That makes image creation part of the workflow, not a separate creative step.

🔴 The reported use case is clear: generate visuals for presentations, posters and marketing assets from natural-language prompts, then refine them inside Workspace.

🔴 Reporting also points to object-level editing through AI segmentation, which suggests Google is aiming beyond basic generation and toward more precise visual control.

The key question for teams is whether this kind of embedded AI design tool saves enough time to become part of daily work.
