GOOGLE CLOUD ANNOUNCES EIGHTH-GENERATION TPUs ON APRIL 22, 2026
Google is making AI infrastructure more specialized, not less dependent on Nvidia.
🔴 Google Cloud split its eighth-generation TPUs into two chips: TPU 8t for training and TPU 8i for inference.
🔴 The company says TPU 8t delivers up to 3x faster training and 80% better performance per dollar, which makes cost and throughput part of the same conversation.
🔴 Google also says the new chips support clustering of 1 million+ TPUs, while still committing to offer Nvidia’s Vera Rubin chip later in 2026.
For engineers, data scientists, and enterprise IT teams, the message is clear: Google Cloud is expanding the AI hardware menu, not closing it.
